We have lots of reasons to feel lucky here at Furleigh Estate, but this week we are particularly blessed because we have the International Cheese Expert, Juliet Harbutt, visiting us on Thursday 28th June. More details of Juliet’s presentation are given below together with details of how to book tickets. We have recently released our 2017 still wines. These are perfect for summer picnics, barbecues and on the beach so do check these out while this glorious weather holds. Finally, for those about to go off on holiday travels, we have a new competition for those taking a Furleigh Estate jute bag with them. Winning a bottle of Furleigh fizz might just make going back to work bearable.
We are delighted that Juliet Harbutt, author, educator and judge, will be presenting an introduction to English artisan cheeses with a selection of Furleigh Estate wines at the vineyard on Thursday, 28th June. We are very fortunate to have secured this evening with Juliet on her whistle stop tour around Europe while she is visiting from her native New Zealand where she returned to last year.
In 1994, Juliet created The British Cheese Awards and in 2000, The Great British Cheese Festival.
Her books include Guide to the Finest Cheeses of Britain, The World Encyclopaedia of Cheese and The British Cheese Directory.
Juliet will introduce you to the art of tasting cheese and guide you through the seven styles of English Artisanal Cheeses. Victoria Bishop of Furleigh Estate’s Wine Club will then take you through four wines in preparation for everyone to work out their own personal favourite combinations under Juliet’s experienced eye. Be prepared for some unusual pairings and an enjoyable, educational evening.
Please join us from 6.45pm for a glass of Furleigh Estate Classic Cuvée, for a 7pm start. Tickets are £25 each - book here.
We are really pleased that we have recently released four new still wines. All of these are just perfect for summer drinking – even if this wonderful sunshine does not continue, we can still drink the Furleigh summer in a glass with these new wines.
The 2017 vintage of our ever popular Bacchus Dry is now on our shelves. Fans of this wine will recognise its beautiful aromatic floral scents of elderflower and apple blossom with just a hint of lemon grass. As always, the palate is zingy and fresh with vibrant flavours of lemon zest, yellow grapefruit and a touch of passionfruit. Serve chilled with flat fish, sushi or Scandinavian food.
We also have a new bottling of our Bacchus Fumé. Passion-flower and lime-blossom aromas and tropical fruits on the palate. Yum – my favourite!
This year sees the return of Dorset Flint. This is a dry, crisp Chardonnay perfect with local fish and chips.
The last of our still wine new releases is the 2017 vintage of the lovely Sea Pink. On the nose there is a heady blend of summer fruits including strawberries and red cherries. The palate is fruit-laden; raspberry and redcurrant marry pomegranate and tangerine with just a hint of sweetness. Truly summer in a glass.
Our final new release is the sparkling Rosé. This is a wine with great finesse. A delicate salmon-pink hue with tiny bubbles, it has enticing aromas of wild strawberries and white peach mingled with rosehip. The mousse is soft and creamy and there are fresh summer berries on the palate including cranberry and redcurrant mingling with stone fruits, nectarine and wild apricot. Wimbledon is just around the corner - we’ve got a bowl of strawberries and a glass of Furleigh Estate Rosé - anyone for tennis?!
With holidays around the corner, lots of you will have travel plans. Why not pack a Furleigh Estate jute bag with some essentials and take it with you? Take a photo of the bag where ever you happen to be and post it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, tagging Furleigh Wine. (If you are not into social media just email your photo to us at firstname.lastname@example.org). We will then send a bottle of Furleigh Estate Classic Cuvée to the owner of the best photo each week during August.
Nordic Walking NWUK accredited instructors Julia Williams and Paul Duffy from The Garden Studios in Bridport will be running a further introductory session to the basic techniques of Nordic Walking. The first session starts at 5.30pm with tea and finishes after an hour with a rewarding glass of Furleigh Estate fizz on the terrace. The cost is £10 per person which include loan of poles and a glass of Furleigh fizz. Book your place here.
